Health and Caring Ministries

Our Mission

Helping by sharing our talents and skills,
Caring for our church and community,
Meeting needs wherever they are found, and
Taking the love of Jesus Christ to others.

The goal of our program (HCMT) is not to duplicate those already in place but to complement those services when we can and to add a broader scope of assistance to both our community and our church family.  We are always open to suggestions.  The initial role I see for myself, as the Faith Community Nurse, is advocacy, resources, and referrals, and health educator.  I am in the office, now located in the Hacienda, Mondays from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  All personal information is held in strict confidence.  You can also find my business cards around the church and in the church office, and you can always call and speak with me.

I would like to share a quote from Health Ministries and Faith Community Nursing: the Basics (Queen Creek, AZ: Health Ministries Association, Inc., c2009).

In health ministry, our focus is on healing.  Love and healing are always possible, even when a cure is not.  Here are some differences:

  • Cure eliminates the disease.  Healing gives wholeness to the person.
  • Cure focuses on the body and fixes it.  Healing embraces the whole person and corrects what is out of balance.
  • Cure isolates.  Healing incorporates.
  • Cure alters what is.  Healing offers what might be.
  • Cure is a closed system.  Healing is an open system.
  • Cure encounters mystery and tries to understand it.  Healing encounters mystery as a channel for meaning.
  • Cure seeks to conquer pain.  Healing seeks to transcend pain.
  • Cure rejects death and sees it as a defeat.  Healing includes death as one of the blessed outcomes of life.
