Irving King is our prison Minister. He has served time in some of the most famous prisons in the United States. There is Leavenworth, a federal penitentiary, Jackson Prison in Michigan, a state prison, and also Virginia State Prison. They are all gone now: Leavenworth was replaced, Jackson Prison was split up and renamed, and Virginia Prison is no longer in Richmond, and has been demolished. Irv did 11 and 1/2 years behind walls.
Also a 2 year graduate, he has been published several times. His first was in New Wine Magazine in 1970. He also has a book and book on CD that tells his story called “A Thief’s Forgiveness.” Irv has also published several poems at poetry.com.
He has been shot at, almost killed by another inmate, and tried to escape twice. That was in the 60′s and 70′s. Now, we are proud to say that he is our Chaplin. He is a licensed minister through God’s Living Words Ministry. He was ordained in April of 2004. He now ministers to the inmates of jails and prisons and is open to visit anyone that you know and is in jail here in Tucson. He will write to those he can’t visit or see.
Since he and his wife came to Marana, Arizona in 2004, they have been attending Community Christian Church of Marana. In 2007 Pastor Dave Hedgepeth and Irv King started the Prison Ministry. Currently Irv conducts all prison visits.
